Greetings from
Your CAHU President
|
|
Great October meeting! If you were not
there, I'm sorry you missed out. Our NAHU National President Mel
Schlesinger was the guest speaker and talked with us about how to
thrive in this ever changing industry. As a group benefits
consultant, I took away many ideas that will help my business. That
is what we are striving to do with the monthly lunch meetings.
Provide speakers and topics that will help you grow your business.
The networking opportunity is great, and the fellowship is even
better. If you haven't been in a while, please plan to join us at our
next monthly meeting on November 2nd. You won't be sorry!
Our chapter has been really busy this last month on
the political front. Several CAHU board members went to a
Congresswoman Sue Myrick event and were able to gain her support as
co-sponsor of the house bill H.R. 1206 (the bill that takes your
commissions out of the MLR). We also attended a local event
featuring NC House Speaker Thom Tillis. Also at the event were State
Senator Tommy Tucker and State Representative Craig Horn, as well as
many candidates for the upcoming elections. Your chapter is very
active on your behalf, promoting and influencing our local and
national politicians on issues that affect our industry. You too
could be a part of this exciting process!
We have many planned events and opportunities for
you to be a part of, from CE events to Young Professional get
togethers. Check out the updated website. Come to the November
meeting. My father always said you only get out of something what you
put in to it. CAHU membership is full of professional
value.
We are selling raffle tickets to benefit the North
Carolina Health Underwriters state chapter. Specifically, the
proceeds will go to help underwrite the administrative costs for the
state organization. Remember, this is the group that runs the NCHU
symposium every year. This is a chance to win a $4000 vacation cruise
for $10. Please consider buying a stack of these for your
clients or your staff.
We meet on the first Wednesday of every month, so
plan to join us! Oh! And bring your friends from the office. Did I
mention that we have a contest for those that bring in new members?

There is
such a thing as a free lunch!
|
Beginning
with the November 2011 meeting and continuing through the June 2012
meeting, we are rewarding our membership for regular attendance. For
CAHU members, we are pleased to offer your meal at the monthly
meeting at no charge when you meet the following 2 criteria...
1)
Attend the prior month's meeting and
2)
Make a reservation by Friday afternoon prior to
the
upcoming meeting
If
you did not attend the prior meeting, the cost for the upcoming
meeting will be $10, and you will meet the first guideline for a free
lunch for the following month's meeting. If you don't make a
reservation by Friday afternoon, the cost for the upcoming meeting
will be $10 as well. The cost of the lunch meeting will continue to
be $15 for non-member guests.
We
hope members will appreciate the opportunity to attend a great
meeting and enjoy a fabulous meal at
no cost to the member!

Local
Awards at CAHU
|
|
Each year, our local CAHU chapter awards those members
who truly exemplify what stepping up and volunteering means!
Our Chapter offers four awards each year: Past Presidents Gavel,
Member of the Year, Spark Plug Award and the Distinguished Service
& Ethics Award.
At our October meeting, the Past Presidents
Plaque & Gavel was awarded to our 2010-2011 Chapter President,
Wes Grigston. Wes helped to guide our chapter to new heights
over the last year and also led the Chapter to receive the first
ever PaceSetter Award!
The Spark Plug Award, which is given to a member of 5
years or less who has truly shown dedication and drive, was given to
Cathy Graham. Cathy has played a vital role in our chapter over
the past two years and has been a joy to have on the local
Board. Cathy has truly stepped up and been involved with
helping this chapter strive as we go forward.
Our chapter's Member of the Year Award was presented
to Nat Smith. As Past President, PAC chair, and Presidents
Council Chair, Nat has helped direct and further our value as a
local Association for years. Nat has been a longtime member of
CAHU and a huge advocate for our continued success and
achievements.
Congratulations to this year's CAHU Annual Local
Chapter Award recipients!
